Farmers and their farms are essential for the economy in the United States. After all, agricultural exports in the United States alone total nearly one hundred and forty billion dollars in the just one year. The more than two million farms across the country play an important role and fill an important need, providing goods that the people of the United States need in order to stay healthy. In fact, nearly two hundred and fifteen billion pounds of milk and more than two billion metric tons of grain were produced in 2016 alone, and this does not even account for other types of popular and essential crops.

With such a high demand for goods, motors for farm irrigation systems are essential to the continued success of any farm in the United States. However, the environmental impact from those motors for farm irrigation systems was considerable, and it was not a sustainable way of powering a farm. In fact, statistics show that just by switching to an electric motor from a diesel or natural gas powered one virtually eliminates all harmful emissions and negative impact on the environment on a whole. Switching to an electric motor from one run by diesel or natural gas is not just beneficial to the environment alone, however. No, in fact switching to an electric motor such as a single phase electric motor can save the farm itself a considerable amount of money – as much as sixty percent of total energy costs.

Three phase power is also an option, but many farm areas do not have easy access to it. Three phase power represents another environmentally friendly power option for motors for farm irrigation systems, but it can be somewhat costly to install – as much as twenty five thousand dollars if three phase power does not already exist in your area. However, many farmers are willing to pay that cost, as installing a three phase power system will ultimately save them money on their total energy costs.

Switching the original motors that ran on diesel gas or natural gases to more environmentally friendly motors such as a single phase motor or even a three phase motor has been widespread in farms all across the country. This is because the old types of motors no longer comply with the restrictions recently set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Clean Air Act.
