What Hydroseeding is Capable Of

For many thousands of years, humanity has planted and cultivated many different crops for consumption, and today, not only are crop seeds broadcasted but also seeds for grass and similar plants. The traditional method of broadcasting is possible, but on large areas or on areas difficult to reach, hydroseeding may be a preferable alternative method. In fact, hydroseeding contractors can be hired for this work, and hydrograss can soon be planted en masse. It is often commercial clients who ask for hydroseeding contractors, and the advantages of hydroseeding are considerable. Hydrograss technologies have been in use since the 1940s, and have proven their worth ever since. What might be done when hydroseeding is taking place, and where might it be done?

Hydroseeding Erosion Control and More

Hydroseeding is just what it sounds like: using a slurry of water, seeds, and mulch to spray a vast quantity of seeds across a large area, or in areas that are sloped or otherwise difficult to plant with other means. This slurry, by combining seeds with water and mulch, can also contain healthy soil amendments to allow for fast and healthy growth of whatever is being planted. That slurry will then be applied with appropriate pressure to the ground’s surface for seed germination and developing turf. It may be noted that while this may sometimes be more expensive than dry broadcasting of seeds, hydroseeding boasts a high rate of seed germination when done properly, and this can make it efficient work that brings a lot of results relatively fast. Where a lot of seeds need to be planted, this can prove cost-effective when the resulting healthy growth is factored in. It may also be noted that the mulch in the hydroseeding slurry helps contain the moisture and keep it locked in, which makes seed growth healthier and faster than otherwise.

Where and why is hydroseeding done? One reason to plant a lot of seeds like this is for anti-erosion efforts. Bare soil with thin grass is vulnerable to erosion, when soil dries up and becomes loose, and is blown away as dust. In fact, the infamous Dust Bowl of the 1930s was due not only to drought in the area but also from excessive farming and erosion, resulting in enormous dust storms. Today, there isn’t a dust bowl on that scale, but erosion is a natural process that may affect any vulnerable soil. Erosion will not only ruin farm land, but it may also make a park or other public land look unattractive and ruin its health. Therefore, planting plants is a common means of preventing erosion, and plants help keep the soil together. This can be done by means of rich grass growth and reforestation. China, for example, is planting a lot of trees in its western regions to combat desertification there. On a slightly smaller scale, hydroseeding can be done to put down a lot of healthy grass quickly and stave off erosion.,

Hydroseeding might also be done to create or remodel a public park, since park guests will expect attractive scenery such as trees, bushes, flower beds, and of course, fields of rich green grass. Thin or dead grass won’t impress anyone, so a city government’s parks department may ask hydroseeding contractors to visit the park and perform hydroseeding on areas with sparse or no grass. This may beautify the park and make it somewhere appealing to visit.
